Hunting darts
Along with Phyllobates terribilis and P. bicolor, it is one of only three frogs historically used to poison hunting darts.

Batrachotoxin
Its skin secretes batrachotoxin, a steroidal alkaloid capable of irreversibly altering sodium channels.
Golden stripes
Two yellow-green longitudinal bands run along the back and make its outline unmistakable.
Calling duel
Males compete by escalating the intensity of their calls until one retreats.
Distribution
In Colombia it is distributed through Choco and Valle del Cauca on the Pacific slope of the Cordillera Occidental.
